A beautiful game

Granted we were just figuring out this high intensity functional fitness stuff by ourselves back then, so injuries were par for the course. As was a 'she'll be right', braggadocio attitude by the looks of it.... ;)

These days though, despite the better understanding and more qualified coaches, we still have regular people with regular goals finding themselves with acute injuries and chronic pain because of a misunderstanding around the basics of progressive overload, aka start out easy, light, little, slow, and over LOTS of time, make it harder, heavier, more, faster.

There’s no such thing as dangerous movements or workouts, but there’s definitely a danger in performing movements or workouts that your body doesn’t have capacity for.

We train to be better.

To lift more.

To move faster.

To achieve endlessly more difficult feats.

Setting goals and reaching them is incredibly motivating and rewarding.

However, there is also incredible fulfilment to be found simply in the doing.

The simple act of turning up.

Doing the work that matters, the learning, the practice, the failing, the persisting.

Always striving to move BETTER.

The act of moving well AND of striving to always do so, are a beautiful game, and it's a game you can participate in forever.

Why would you want to play anything else...?
